A partnership program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) makes it easier to save water and protect the environment by identifying high efficiency products that perform well. The WaterSense label was created to encourage manufactures to produce water efficient plumbing fixtures and to develop a system to help consumers recognize these products. that have been performance tested and validated by several agencies.

As members of the EPAs WaterSense Steering Committee, TOTO water efficiency specialists advised the EPA on developing product performance criteria for the WaterSense program. TOTO products are recognized is part of the EPAs National Environmental Achievement Track, the gold standard for facility-based environmental performance, recognizing environmental excellence by encouraging facilities with strong environmental records to go above and beyond legal requirements. TOTO is also a partner in the EPAs innovative collaboration with the freight industry to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution.

The EPAs WaterSense label identifies toilets that:

• Qualify as High Efficiency Toilets (1.28gpf or less).
• Have a minimum soybean paste flush score of 350 uncased grams.
• Meet the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Supplementary Pricing Specification regarding trim quality and tank volume.
• Have third party testing agencies conducting product performance testing and validation.

The American Disability Act (ADA) was enacted in 1990 to establish design codes to serve people of all ages and abilities. A core principle behind TOTO Total Design, ADA standards consider the needs of everyone, no matter their needs, without additional adaptation or specialization, optimizing the bathroom experience for all generations in the family home.

Established in 1953 by the California Building Standards Law, the California Building Standards Commission (CBSC) is within the Department of General Services under the Government Operations Agency. CBSC members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the State Senate.

CBSC’s mission is to produce sensible and usable state building standards and administrative regulations that implement or enforce those standards.

Specifically, CBSC:

• Assists state agencies in producing high-quality amendments;
• Works to repeal unnecessary building regulations and see that ambiguous regulations are more clearly written;
• Assists various constituents and special interest groups in making their needs known to various code-writing departments;
• Administers a public appeal process;
• Educates the public about the state’s building code, and helps them to understand and comply with it;
• Ensures Title 24 is published with minimal errors.
